RESERVE A ROOM

You can reserve one of two rooms for studying, meeting, collaborating, and innovation. The Forge can be booked by anyone one (1) week in advance for two (2) hours at a time. The Roy Hawkins Community Room can be booked by anyone up to sixty (60) days in advance for four (4) hours at a time.

We will hold rooms for 15 minutes; after that, we'll make the room available for the next person. See below for more details.

THE FORGE

The Forge is a collaborative makerspace and a study room for small meetings and for personal work. Makers may not use The Forge for commercial business purposes, nor can Makers charge others to use or learn in the space. Makers may only use the computer in The Forge for its intended purposes, such as designing and creating. Users not engaged in crafting or studying will be asked to relocate as determined by Library Staff.

When not in use for Library activities, the room is available to the public under the following guidelines. The Library Board neither approves nor disapproves of content, topics, subject-matter, or points-of-view of individuals, groups, or organizations using the room. Exceptions to any part of this policy may be made at the sole discretion of the Library Director or designee. All room users must also adhere to the Library’s Acceptable Use Policy and the Guest Services Policy.

A Certified Maker (hereinafter Maker) is a Library cardholder (aged 14+) certified to work independently in The Forge with a signed Agreement on file. Becoming a Maker allows users access to The Forge to craft, create, complete projects, and study without assistance and on their own time. While the Library may offer occasional workshops, Makers understand that Library Staff may not be available to set up machines, help with projects, and or troubleshoot while using equipment in The Forge.

The Forge can be booked one week in advance online or in-person with Library Staff. Drop-ins are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis. Makers wishing to use The Forge for the first time are required to read and sign an Agreement, which will be held on file. So long as a Maker’s card is active, their ability to use The Forge is granted.

ROY HAWKINS COMMUNITY ROOM USE POLICY

La Porte City Public Library (the Library) provides one meeting room called the Roy Hawkins Community Room, which is primarily used to support the Library’s mission and vision.

The Community Room is available at no charge to non-profit organizations (defined as those entities granted tax-exempt status by the IRS under section 501(c)(3) or other tax-exempt sections of the Internal Revenue Code), a candidate’s campaign committee (as defined in Iowa Code §68A.102(5)), a political committee (as defined by Iowa Code §68A.102(18)), a non-profit citizen’s group that provides appropriate contact information, a governmental subdivision, or a department/division/bureau of a governmental subdivision.

For-profit groups (such as businesses and law offices) are charged a $20.00 rental fee per use. All fees from for-profit groups must be received by the library before the meeting commences. Payments are made on the date of the booking in cash or check, payable to La Porte City Public Library.

The room is unavailable for use as a regularly scheduled classroom or study space by educational institutions or educational professionals for consistent tutoring and extracurricular support. Rooms are not available for personal social events, such as birthday parties, showers, holiday parties, and receptions. Individuals, groups, and organizations may not charge admission fees other than membership dues.

The Library Director may authorize the use of the Community Room for fundraising activities or for the sale of books, goods, merchandise, or services. Otherwise, the room is not to be used for direct sale or merchandise, goods, or services for profit, or for the promotion of any commercial or profit-making venture or business. The room is not to be used for fundraising for the benefit of private individuals or for private support of organizations, other than the La Porte City Public Library.

EQUIPMENT USE GUIDELINES

Users must abide by the Acceptable Library Use Policy and the Internet & Wi-Fi Use Policy. Upon reasonable belief that a violation of the Library’s policies has occurred, the Library reserves the right to terminate guest use of equipment, digital devices, and computing resources, to suspend Library privileges, to ask the user to leave the Library, or to contact local law enforcement.
