PUBLIC COMPUTERS & TABLETS
For public use, the Library provides computers and tablets stationed at the computer bay. Below are a few reminders from our policy. The Library reserves the right to restrict or terminate computer and internet privileges of any individual not practicing responsible use.
WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR COMPUTER USE?

Devices are available on a walk-in basis, and a one-hour time limit may be enforced if other patrons are waiting

No more than two patrons may use a device at one time

Those without a Library card will be encouraged to read the policy posted by the computers

As with other materials, the Library affirms the responsibility of parents or guardians to guide their children’s use of the internet

Patrons will be asked to terminate computer use fifteen minutes before closing

The AWE computer is specifically for young children, and there is no specified time limit; however, if other children are waiting, Library Staff may limit time usage
-
Every night, all computers will restart and perform a reset using a program called Deep Freeze; all personal data stored on devices will be permanently deleted
WHAT ARE THE BASIC RULES OF COMPUTER USE?

The internet is an unregulated global information resource openly available

The Library cannot guarantee the accuracy or authenticity of information discovered from online sources

The Library assumes no responsibility for a patron's activities while using computers

The Library provides high-speed Internet access but makes no guarantees of uninterrupted service

The Library accepts no responsibility for damage to a patron's personal device, including loss of data due to service disruptions

The Library cannot guarantee confidentiality while using any website

Patrons entering personal information do so at their own risk

Library Staff will help with internet access and device use as they are able
WHAT ARE UNACCEPTABLE USES OF COMPUTERS?

Using the computers or internet for purposes other than informational, educational, recreational, or for viewing, downloading, or sending pornographic material is unacceptable

Any illegal or unethical use of the internet, including but not limited to, violation of copyright laws, harassment, distribution of unsolicited information, propagation or dissemination of viruses, or attempting to make unauthorized entry into other computers

Attempting to modify or gain access to restricted files, passwords, or data

Downloading or installing personal software onto a Library device without explicit permission from library staff

Damaging or destroying equipment, software, or data belonging to the Library, including adding, altering, or deleting files or configurations or using accidentally and intentionally downloading malware on a Library device
HOW DO I OBTAIN WIRELESS ACCESS (WI-FI)?

Wi-Fi is freely available at any time by access to the patron network

NETWORK PASSCODE: None, simply accept the Terms & Conditions

The patron network is open and unsecured, and content is unfiltered

The Library cannot guarantee security of computer equipment owned by the patron

The Library assumes no responsibility for loss of data or damage to patron property

Library conduct rules apply to wireless network users
WHAT IF I NEED TO ACCESS AUDIO OR VIDEO MATERIAL?

Audio material may be accessed assuming the patron is using headphones (headphones are available for checkout)

If no headphones are available, the volume must be low enough as to be inaudible to other patrons

For conference calls (like Zoom), guests may reserve the Studio & Study Room
